Storage Wars - What fits?
As we readied the house for sale and simultaneously readied the RV for full-time occupation, we ran into many decision points as you can imagine. We suddenly had all the rest of our STUFF in basically one “keeping/storage” pile. Working through this pile was the hardest. We didn’t want to just take it all to storage or out to the RV. We had to be very careful and deliberate in our decisions. Our Reflections doesn't have a tremendous amount of storage and has a relatively low gross weight restriction. Some of the issues were just how many tools do I need for instance. Certainly, enough to do small repairs – a small hammer, screwdriver set, some pliers, wire cutters, a voltmeter, a small cordless drill, some extension cords, tire changing stuff (a heavy duty impact driver with assorted sockets, a 12V tire pump and a jack.) Well, almost a jack. I had been carrying around a small bottle jack in case of a flat but realized that the truck had a jack in it that would work so the bottle jack got stored. I figured the Ram 3500 we pulled with would always be there if we had a problem with the RV tires and I could save some weight that way. We ditched the portable pop up shade (we can use the awnings), our shore power extension cord (it’s heavy and we can grab it for certain trips), left behind the 2 spare water hoses we’d been carrying, down selected from all our portable chairs to just 4 and things like that.
We did keep our Corn Hole set for practice and something to do on the road. We also went shopping for a small grill, finally settling on a 17 in very light and portable Blackstone grill that we figured was the best of both worlds. Size and weight was a constant worry!
Update - On our first 6-week trip we didn't pull the Corn Hole set out even once and never needed 4 chairs so they all got stored. The shore power cord extension was very useful and is now permanently onboard.
