House Prep and Sale
As soon as we made the decision, Kim immediately jumped into sell mode and contacted a realtor in the SA area. By Saturday, June 8th, the realtor was at our house giving us advice on how to stage the house for the best sale. That same day we went to a nearby town to get a storage unit for some household goods. I was only willing to commit to 2-5 years. Afterall, this house on 5 acres was supposed to be our retirement home but so was the one inside town we had left just 4 ½ years earlier, so plans were changing quickly. I figured no matter what we plan, God will once again have a different path down the road for us. One of us might get sick or injured or for some other reason require a steady home. Given that possibility (probability?), we decided to store a lot of our best furniture and meaningful belongings we felt sure to need in ANY future home.
We chose a climate-controlled unit first to protect some of our newer furniture, mattresses, and electronics. Unfortunately, the only thing available was way too small for all we hoped to keep and we wound up adding a much larger non-climate-controlled unit a few days later. After that, we spent the rest of June sorting our stuff and deciding what to keep, throw away, give away or pack away and of course, making touchups on our house to make sure it sold quickly and for the best price.
We were very fortunate and our house sold quickly after putting it on the market in early July even with the elevated interest rates. The good news is it sold quickly, the bad news was the same! We now had to quickly move ALL our stuff out not just the initial loads for showing the house. All in all, from the time we decided to sell until closing was just 2 months!
